A new trading experience bridging the gap between TradFi & Web3
Bringing fiat and crypto together in one seamless mobile experience
Introduction
Amina Bank wanted to modernise its mobile trading experience to meet the growing demand for both fiat and crypto investing. I redesigned the platform to create a unified, intuitive space where users could seamlessly manage, buy and trade across asset types helping the bank bridge traditional and digital finance.
My Role & Responsibilities
End-to-end design ownership: Led the full design process from research to hi-fidelity delivery.
Competitor benchmarking: Analysed leading banks, neobanks and crypto platforms to identify best practices.
Wireframing and prototyping: Defined information architecture, created low to hi-fidelity wireframes and validated flows through prototyping.
UI design: Established visual patterns and built modular components for scalability across currencies and accounts.
Collaboration: Worked closely with product managers and engineers to align requirements, refine edge cases and ensure smooth handoff.
Usability testing: Facilitated testing sessions, gathered feedback and iterated on flows to optimise clarity and usability.
Problem
Amina Bank’s trading platform had been built on legacy mobile patterns that no longer reflected modern financial needs. The interface was cluttered, difficult to navigate and failed to support the dual worlds of traditional finance and crypto. As adoption of digital assets accelerated these limitations became more pronounced — users couldn’t easily view, manage or trade across fiat and crypto in one unified space. This led to frustration, abandoned trades and disengagement from the platform.
Goals
Bridge the gap between traditional and crypto finance
Provide a unified dashboard for all accounts and assets
Simplify core trade actions (buy, sell and trade)
Build trust through a cleaner and more transparent interface
Create a scalable design system to support future features
Research & Process
Discovery & Audit
Conducted a full UX audit of the existing trading flow to identify friction points. Combined findings with user feedback, analytics and product requirements to map behavioral patterns and expectations.
Cross-Platform
Benchmarking Reviewed interfaces from leading traditional banks, neobanks and crypto trading apps. This helped define best-in-class interaction patterns, establish mental models and highlight opportunities for differentiation.
Information Architecture
Overhaul Redesigned the structure to support a dual-asset model of fiat and crypto. Introduced a shared portfolio dashboard that improved visibility and helped users quickly understand their total holdings.
Unified Trade Actions
Created a simplified and consistent trade model (Buy, Sell, Trade) that worked seamlessly across both fiat and crypto. Leveraged contextual UI cues to reduce decision fatigue and make complex interactions feel approachable.
Component Design & Prototyping
Built a modular component system that supported multiple currencies and account types. Prototyped flows in Figma and validated them with usability testing tools to refine clarity and usability.
Collaboration with Engineering
Partnered closely with development teams to ensure technical feasibility, refine edge cases and streamline the design handoff for efficient build.

Conclusion / Learnings
This project reinforced the value of grounding design decisions in customer research and testing. By listening to business owners and validating concepts early, I was able to design a dashboard that delivered immediate value while laying the foundation for future enhancements.
I also learned the importance of balancing ambition with feasibility. Some of the most exciting ideas uncovered in research were better suited to the long-term vision, while the first iteration needed to be achievable and impactful in the short term.
Most importantly, the project showed the impact of close collaboration across design, product and engineering. Working as a small cross-functional team allowed us to move quickly, align on priorities and deliver a solution that met both customer needs and technical constraints.
